Blakfish

"NAUGHTY KNEES-UP ROCK ACTION"

Sotones
Available for gigs

Blakfish are Sam, Tom, Rich & Wiz from Sutton Coldfield in Birmingham. They play music that covers a wide variety of ''styles'' and love to fucking spaz out.

They're more than just garage-bound metal-rockers though. In the last year they have literally bombed round the county on a seemingly never-ending succession of tours and showcases that has won respect and envy from literally everyone they've played to. Our favourite example is a well-known, slightly curmudgeonly indie promoter who insisted he was only seeing them 'under duress... they're too mainstream.' Only seconds into the BF set the same culprit was deep into the throbbing mosh pit head-first like a 14-year-old.

Blakfish have that power, that effect on people because as well as a well-oiled, slick rocking machine, they also have a very Brummie warmth, wit and sense of catchy melody that engages the heart as well as the flailing limbs.

With a full joint tour with Meet Me In St Louis this year, 2008 looks great for Blakfish. Visit the myspace, but the music sure, but above all, make sure you get out and see them!

Blakfish have played with: Spy Versus Spy, This Ain't Vegas, Rolo Tomassi, Meet Me In St. Louis, Dartz!, This Town Needs Guns, Secondsmile, Charlottefield, Ack Ack Ack, Russian Circles, An Albatross, Colour, Tubelord, Lakes, RX Bandits, SikTh, Enter Shikari, Marmaduke Duke, The Scare, DIE! DIE! DIE!, Citizens Here and Abroad, Kid's In Glass Houses and You say Party! We Say die! to list a few. As well as playing at DOWNLOAD FESTIVAL '07 with loads of bands, good and bad alike.

What the people have to say...

"The tightness of Blakfish's eccentric high-energy offbeat stop-start hardcore is an intoxicating blend of elemental forces, with reggae breakdowns and hip hop interludes lightening the mood amidst scalding, paint stripping riot rock topped by alternately melodic and throat-ripping raging vocals. For fans of Converge, Spy vs. Spy, Mogwai, Fugazi and At the Drive In, this is the sound of intelligent intensity with serious musicianship and a unique party vibe, so cheer up kids, Blakfish are here... life's not so bad!" Salvo magazine

"Blakfish are an intelligent and original combination of the heavy bass riffs of Mastodon, haunting melodies of The Mars Volta, intense vocalls of An Albatross, and most interestingly these inspirations are all layered upon a base of what is clearly indie inspired guitar rock. It works. It really works. Add to this fact that this young band has a great stage presence and this is a band to watch." Lastfm blog

"Progressive driving Indie Rock meets Post Punk and Spazz with the intensity Of At The Drive-In, RX Bandits and the sass of The Blood Brothers..." burnteye
