The First Time I Heard This
by Joe
"I had known of neil, and of chin music, for some time but never put two and two together till one day i stopped into Planet Sounds and was amazed by the tight, muscular yet melodic noises bleeding through the door to the main live room. When they stopped out stepped a very sweaty gang of Chins. i was amazed that this incredible noise had come from this tiny room and immediately got a massive inferiority complex / musical boner [delete as appropriate]
"Several months later they finished this album and i was incredibly lucky to hear one of the first masters. it was a very indifferent hungover morning, and i was struggling to come to terms with both a cold coffee and impending coach trip. rob wade-brown came bounding into the room however, clutching a cd in a plastic wallet.
"Do you know what this is?" he nearly screamed. I didn't, and muttered something about curtains and mothers as he put the CD into the hi-fi and cranked it up.
"Seconds later the warm caress of opener 'Compression' began to sooth my brain yet, with its harmonic tension, slowly begin to massage my adrenal glands. Then 'Right Where We Started' exploded and i lept up.
"this is Chin Music?" I yelled, over the roar.
"it's great!" agreed Rob.
"Its fucking brilliant!!" I replied, "let's parrrrrrty!" I was up.
This isn't just the best LP to come from Southampton in a decade. It's one of my favourite records of the last two years. I hope you enjoy it as much as I have. "
